Medical Marijuana Update

The debate over the use of medical marijuana has been enduring for years in many countries. Let’s check the latest update on medical marijuana worldwide:

Alabama

In Alabama, supporters of medical marijuana are trying to modify the medical cannabis bill to make it acceptable to lawmakers. Alabama Medical Marijuana Coalition is working on amendments to assuage concerns of legislators.

Arizona

Medical marijuana supporters of Arizona recently filed an amendment to that lawsuit where they complaint to force state officials to implement the dispensary portion of the state’s medical marijuana law.

California

The Mendocino County Board of Supervisors on 28th February have quietly voted to amend the county’s marijuana cultivation ordinance to abolish the condition allowing different groups to grow medical marijuana up to 99 plants per parcel with a permit through the Sheriff’s Office. According to the new law, growers can grow up to 25 medical marijuana plants and it will be effective from March 14. The Greater Los Angeles Collective Alliance (GLACA) has also come up in support of the Medical Marijuana Regulation, Control and Taxation Act, 2012. The Sacramento Country medical marijuana activists have also announced a local campaign in support of returning dispensaries to the country.

Colorado

Employees of the Budding Health dispensaries joined the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) union recently and have become the first union medical marijuana shop in Denver. A ‘Patients Voter Project’ has been announced by the national and state medical marijuana supporters to inform patients and their supporters about hostile actions taken by the Obama administration against the medical marijuana legalization. It’s a joint effort by the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP), Americans for Safe Access (ASA), NORML and many others. Meanwhile, a medical marijuana banking bill has been expired in the Senate Finance Committee. The bill was opposed by Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police, the Colorado Drug Investigators Association, the Colorado attorney general’s office and the Colorado District Attorneys’ Council.

Delaware

In Delaware, there is no such provision for patients to grow medical marijuana or obtain it from dispensaries, so there is no stipulation for medical marijuana program as well. However, the sponsor of the state’s medical marijuana legislation urged Gov. Jack Markell (D) to reassess his decision to halt implementation of the medical marijuana law.

Michigan

Last week, the Port Orchard City Council extended a moratorium on dispensaries and collective gardens for six more months. According to the city attorney, if the state legislature clarifies regulation at the state level, it can be completed during this six-month period.

Montana

The number of medical marijuana patients and providers is going down continuously after state and federal crackdowns. The total number of patients has been declined to less than 16, 000 as of last month along with the total number of participating physicians.

Oregon

According to the Oregonian report, hundreds of non-Oregon residents have obtained Oregon medical marijuana cards. Oregon Health Authority reveals that since June 2010, when it started, approximately 600 outsiders have traveled to this region to obtain this card.

Washington

A bill that would have regulated dispensaries in the state of Washington expired after failing to move before a legislative deadline. This Senate Bill 6265 was an endeavor to create a legal framework for dispensaries, however was opposed by some elements of the medical marijuana community.

Colorado has become the fourth State in the US to send a letter to the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) asking them to downgrade marijuana from a Schedule I narcotic to a Schedule II narcotic. Schedule I drugs are listed by the DEA as having a high potential for abuse and no accepted medical value. Prior to this the governors of Washington and Rhode Island filed a formal petition with the DEA in November, 2011 and Vermont filed one shortly afterward.

Hydroponic Nutrients and Supplements:

In today’s time, where everything is quick and easy, hydroponics is one of the most favored techniques of growing fruits and vegetables. Even if you are an amateur grower, hydroponics is one of the most convenient and easy to implement. All you have to do is pay attention to the minerals and nutrients you provide your plants with. And when it comes to nutrients, it is advisable to devise ways of monitoring plants’ pH balance, pH being one of the most critical elements to understand in hydroponics gardening. With proper awareness and knowledge you can avoid common deficiencies most plants face while growing and thereby improve production.

Hydroponics nutrients:

It’s very important to have a comprehensive understanding about the nutrients that are essential to your hydroponic plants. According to a recent study, plants need around twenty nutrients for proper nutrition and growth. Carbon, hydrogen and oxygen are the basic atmospheric elements that plants can gather from water and air. The essential nutrients required by plants can be categorized as micronutrients and macronutrients. Macronutrients – nitrogen, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, potassium and phosphorus, are needed in larger quantities; while micronutrients like copper, iron, chloride, manganese, sodium, zinc, molybdenum, nickel and boron, are needed in trace amounts. To get the best productive approach the right nutrients are needed in the right proportion.

Crop Nutrients:

In traditional soil-growing methods, droughts, salinity and fertility mining worsen the quality of food and act as a severe threat to the overall production of crops. It’s proven that large amount crops are destroyed due to nutrient deficiency caused because of sudden change in climate and inconsistency in the quality of soil. Therefore, to increase the current production of crops without experiencing any problems due to low fertility, climate change or inconsistency, it’s very important to understand the importance of nutrients in your plants life. Also, hydroponics is a better approach towards meeting the nutrient needs of your crops.

Hydroponically grown plants don’t have to compromise with the limited available nutrients like soil growing method. Because plants are provided nutrients directly by nutrient-enriched solution they don’t struggle and waste energy in searching for proper nutrients. Following are the benefits of crop nutrients you can enjoy in hydroponics growing method.

  • Nutrient dense products: There are many products available on the market that has high percentage of nutrients in right proportion that serve as an ideal source of energy. Fruits, vegetables and flowers are abnormally bigger and therefore give huge profits to the growers.

Root Care and Cloning:

Gardeners admire their final production but normally they forget about the deep relationship that flowers have with the root zone. They concentrate on developing large flowers without realizing that the health of your plants to a very large extent depends on the health of your roots. Therefore, it becomes very important for you to understand that only well-developed roots can give you better blooms and prevent your plants from pests and diseases.

Understand the quality of roots while purchasing plants: The plant you purchase from the nursery cannot look healthy if the roots are unhealthy. Thus, it’s advisable, if possible, to check the root of the plant you are planning to buy. Large roots give better support to your plants and also help to easily transport moisture and nutrients. Most root bound plants take time to develop in the garden.
